BOILERPLATE

Nayborlee is a private online board for the people you share a place with — a neighborhood, apartment building, 55+ community, rural road, or second-home street — built to get people off the screen and onto the street. Neighbors share recommendations, post Happenings, and get to know the people around them, with conversations in chronological order instead of an algorithmic feed. Available to neighborhoods and local groups across the United States, Nayborlee is free for neighbors, always. Nayborlee was founded by Lise Richards and is built by Smart CRM, LLC. THE FOUNDER

Lise Richards started Nayborlee because she kept noticing the same thing: we’re lonelier than ever as communities, living right next door to people we haven’t really spoken to in years.

She’s a solo founder and a software builder. Before Nayborlee, she spent years building tools that help people work better — then realized the thing most people actually needed was help being neighbors.

SHORT FOUNDER BIO

Lise Richards is the founder of Nayborlee, a neighborhood community platform built to get people off the screen and onto the street. She runs Smart CRM, LLC, where she builds focused software products around better ways to work and live.

WHAT WE ARE SEEING

The room moved.
“Chambers of commerce were built for storefronts. The fastest-growing professional class in America works from a laptop at the kitchen table. The room moved and nobody sent a change-of-address card.” — Lise Richards, founder of Nayborlee

Being there early matters.
“The agents who claimed their Zillow profiles in 2006 had an enormous head start. Founding sponsorship of a neighborhood works the same way.” — Lise Richards, founder of Nayborlee

Build for the way we live now.
“Nobody goes to the block party anymore. People wave from the driveway. We’re not trying to bring back 1985. We’re building the thing that works now.” — Lise Richards, founder of Nayborlee

RESEARCH CONTEXT

Pew Research Center: 26% of U.S. adults said they knew all or most of their neighbors in March 2025. A report published in 2010 found that 43% knew all or most nearby neighbors by name, based on late-2009 responses. These are familiarity measures, not loneliness rates. Wording and survey methods differ, so this is historical context rather than a directly comparable trend.

Rocket Mortgage: 41% say knocking on a neighbor’s door feels “too bold.” Published April 7, 2026.

More than 20% less time socializing in person in the U.S., 2003–2023.
Derek Thompson reports the socializing decline in “The Anti-Social Century” (The Atlantic, February 2025 issue; published online January 8), citing the American Time Use Survey. It measures time spent socializing, not loneliness.

99 additional minutes at home per day, on average, for U.S. adults in 2022 compared with 2003.
Patrick Sharkey’s “Homebound” (Sociological Science, August 2024), also cited by Thompson, analyzes American Time Use Survey data. The increase is an average for U.S. adults from 2003 to 2022. Time at home is not necessarily time alone.

21% of U.S. adults reported frequent or near-constant loneliness in a May 2024 survey.
Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Making Caring Common report (October 2024) uses a nationally representative May 2024 YouGov survey of 1,500 U.S. adults. The figure counts people reporting loneliness frequently or almost all the time/always during the prior 30 days. It measures reported feelings, not time spent alone.
